American Spinal Injury Association announces InSTeP and the new online ASIA Learning Center with TorranceLearning

The American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA), in conjunction with TorranceLearning, announced the release of InSTeP and its online learning management system June 1.

The ASIA Learning Center provides self-paced, multimedia-based medical courses that include assessments and completion certificates. Learners register within the site, then purchase a course through the Center’s ecommerce capability; administrators are then able to run reporting and tracking information on courses being taken within the system.

The first course available in the online system is the long-awaited InSTeP, the online training for the International Standards for the Classification of Spinal Cord Injury. The three-hour course, produced by TorranceLearning, prepares healthcare professionals to perform accurate and consistent neurological examinations of individuals with spinal cord injuries.

The InSTeP course was developed over two years and consists of six separate modules: Basic Anatomy, the Sensory Examination, the Motor Examination, the Anorectal Examination, Scoring Scaling & Classification, and Optional Testing Subjects.

The Learning Center and InSTeP course were created through volunteer efforts by both ASIA and International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) members, along with generous funding from: Medtronic Sofamor Danek, The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, and The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

ASIA is a non-profit association that establishes and promotes standards of excellence for all aspects of health care for individuals with spinal cord injuries. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the organization is best known for its Standard Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury, which is the global standard for the classification of spinal cord injuries.

The ASIA Learning Center is online at http://www.asialearningcenter.com. Visit the ASIA website at http://www.asia-spinalinjury.org.
