TorranceLearning sponsors Tech Night at children’s museum

TorranceLearning served as a Friend Sponsor for Technology “Night at the Museum” at Ann Arbor’s (MI) Hands-On Museum on May 30, 2009.

The elearning company joined other local businesses in support of the first-time event. Sponsors set up exhibits and demonstration tables along the museum’s main corridor for about 350 attendees.

TorranceLearning’s table showcased four of the company’s micro-demos for viewing. Visitors to the table were invited to sit on a yoga ball chair, put on a pair of headphones, and engage themselves with a micro-demo of choice; younger visitors were given TorranceLearning coloring pages and played with squishy balls.

Passers-by were also able to join in on the fun, as a large monitor was set up to broadcast the courses played on one learner’s computer. TorranceLearning’s table was busy throughout the evening.

“It was great to see the collection of vibrant, local tech companies that participated, and the number of people in the community that came out to see them,” said TorranceLearning president Megan Torrance.

Included in the list of playable courses was a new demonstration piece titled “Build Your Own Elearning Course.” The course illustrated the basic process of how elearning modules are created, and then invited the learner to create a course on sandhill cranes.

“This is the first event we’ve ever sponsored like this,” said Torrance. “And we had so much fun that we’ll be back to the Hands-On Museum for more next year.”

Located on East Ann Street in Ann Arbor, MI, the Hands-On Museum works to inspire people to discover the wonder of science, math and technology. The museum’s website is found at www.aahom.org.

TorranceLearning is based in Chelsea, Michigan. The company specializes in creating custom learning solutions for clients with unique or proprietary training needs.
