TorranceLearning offsets carbon emissions through TerraPass

TorranceLearning recently balanced its carbon emissions through carbon offset provider TerraPass.

The elearning company consistently conserves and recycles to reduce the impact of its operations on the environment.  TorranceLearning chose TerraPass to balance the remainder of its carbon output.

TerraPass provides an online calculator for individuals, families, or businesses in order to calculate yearly carbon output. This personalized “footprint” is then calculated into monetary value by using a set price per ton of carbon emissions. TerraPass balances emissions by transforming these purchased offsets into tangible reductions in greenhouse gas emissions – through projects such as farm power, landfill gas capture, and wind energy.

Instructional developer Jen Vetter described TerraPass as “a verifiable process with a calculator that takes the guesswork out of determining carbon emissions.”
TerraPass featured TorranceLearning in its blog, The TerraPass Footprint, on May 19. “TerraPass is pleased to welcome our newest Carbon Balanced Business partner, TorranceLearning,” states the blog post. “TorranceLearning has balanced out the C02 emissions resulting from its on-site energy use, business travel and employee commuting.”

The post describes TorranceLearning has having employee-flexible Fridays to reduce commuting time, and using sustainable means to work and communicate with clients. This includes utilizing reusable thumb drives to send course files, instead of large amounts of paper or difficult-to-recycle CDs. Double-sided printing, using green cleaning products, composting, and a full-scale recycling effort are just a few of TorranceLearning’s other practices.

TorranceLearning, based in Chelsea, creates custom learning solutions for clients with unique or proprietary training needs.
