TorranceLearning featured as “Small Giant” in metromode magazine
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
APRIL 30, 2010
TorranceLearning was featured in metromode online magazine this week, along with other members of the Small Giants Community in Michigan.
Company president Megan Torrance was highlighted in the article, “The Land of Small Giants.” Author Bo Burlingham’s book Small Giants, published in 2005, examines several companies that have made deliberate choices to deliver great service to customers, create trust-based work environments for employees, and give back to their communities … sometimes passing on short-term profits and growth to pursue these loftier goals.
In the article, writer Dennis Archambault tells about TorranceLearning’s initial decision not to pursue a big brand-name client when the deal wasn’t right for the then-fledgling company. The rest of the story? TorranceLearning later agreed to a revised plan for the work, and became the biggest elearning contributor to the Dow Marketing University. Dow Marketing University provides live training and elearning courses for Dow Chemical Co. marketers globally. TorranceLearning’s growth strategy includes taking on large clients like Dow at a pace that ensures they can continue to deliver high-quality service to clients. “A stretch is a good thing for us – good for our clients, and good for TorranceLearning,” says Megan. “But too much stretch doesn’t do anyone any good. If we can’t do well by our clients, if we can’t do well by our team … it’s not a good fit for us. Our clients come to us for our sensibility and our sensitivity to getting the job done right for them – we can’t sacrifice that.”
The TorranceLearning team was photographed at their office in Chelsea, Michigan for the article. See the team and read the whole story here.
Other southeastern Michigan “giants” featured were The Whole Brain Group, Zingerman's Bakehouse, Kick the Moon, and Meredith Strategy & Design LLC.
